Volunteer of the Month: May 2017

Markus Michallek

Every month, Animal Care & Control features a volunteer who's making a difference for the animals at the shelter.

Meet the May Volunteer of the Month, Markus Michallek.

How long have you volunteered with the City of Fort Worth Animal Shelter?

Three months.

Why did you decide to start volunteering with us?

Since I am on disability, I wanted to give something back to society. I love animals, so this was the best way.

What is your favorite volunteer activity to help with?

To play with the animals, take care of them and help keep the shelter clean.

What is your fondest memory from volunteering at the shelter?

When I found and picked a cat at the shelter for my parent. She has brought a lot of fun and joy in to our home.

What is something you have learned from volunteering at he shelter that you wish everyone knew?

That helping is very rewarding and fun.

What do you do for fun when you’re not volunteering?

I take care of our animals at home (cats and a dog), and I also love watching sports.
