Lea Donovan

Every month, Animal Care & Control features a volunteer who's making a difference for the animals at the shelter.

Meet the February Volunteer of the Month, Lea Donovan.

How long have you volunteered with the City of Fort Worth Animal Shelter?

I have been volunteering at the shelter since August 2015.

Why did you decide to start volunteering with us?

I have always been in the rescue business, but mostly on my own. I looked into the city shelter and decided I might be more helpful if I work with an organization. Now that my kids are grown I have more time to devote to it.

What is your favorite volunteer activity to help with and why?

My favorite activity is anything at the shelter that gives me one on one with the animals.

If a genie granted you three wishes, what would you wish for?

My three wishes would be Keep my family from harm, I wish that every child could have a loving home, and of course that all animals would have a loving home also.

What’s an ideal weekend for you?

My ideal week end if pretty is outdoors walking along the Trinity River and stopping at the Press Cafe for a glass of wine. If rainy I love watching a good movie or reading a good book with my pups of course.

What are your top five favorite movies?

My favorite movies, well, I’m kind of all over the place on that one. Gone with the wind, Top Gun, (loved the sound track} and My Best Friend’s Wedding. I loved Parent Trap and Inside Out cuz I’m just a kid at heart!

What advice would you give volunteers who have just started out?

The best advice I could give is to try and connect with other volunteers. It helps you feel like you belong and everything is more fun with others.
