Youth Coaching

Training is available for anyone wishing to volunteer as a Youth Athletics Program coach.

All coaches are required to pass a background check and attend the mandatory coaches meeting for their sport. At least one coach per team must also receive National Youth Sports Coaches Association training, which is provided free by the Athletics Section.

The City of Fort Worth Athletics Section conducts a mandatory coaches meeting one week prior to each youth sports season. Athletics Section staff members discuss the coaches manual and rules for the upcoming season.

National Youth Sports Coaches Association training covers areas like self-esteem, sportsmanship, conditioning, safety and sports fundamentals. After the three-hour training course, coaches become NYSCA members. Membership holds coaches accountable to a strict Code of Conduct defined by the NYSCA Coaches Code of Ethics Pledge. New coaches must complete the entire training, while returning coaches only need to renew their NYSCA membership. Download the coach’s manual.
