Employment, Pension & Human Resources
The Employment, Pension & Human Resources Section handles all employment-related legal matters. The attorneys in the section represent the City of Fort Worth in legal matters arising out of employment disputes with the city’s 7,000 employees. The section handles administrative cases involving appeals and grievances before the City Manager’s Office and in the civil service system, represents the city in litigation filed against the city and individual defendants, advises departments regarding employment issues or problems and teaches at city seminars, among other employment-related duties.
The section defends the city in employment related litigation in both federal and state courts, many of those cases involving alleged constitutional violations under the First, Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments; claims of discrimination based on race, sex, color, gender, religion, and national origin; and claims under the Americans with Disabilities Act, the Age Discrimination in Employment Act, the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Fair Labor Standards Act and the Texas Whistleblower and Workers’ Compensation Acts; and other employment based claims.
