Crime is down for third quarter, 2012 so far

Crime decreased in all four reporting areas for 2012 from January to September, and also in the third quarter, according to the Fort Worth Police Department. A report presented to City Council members Tuesday showed overall crime decreased by 8.2 percent.

“This is great news for our department and for our community,” Chief Jeffrey Halstead said. “I appreciate the continued focus from our patrol officers and supervisors.”

National Incident-Based Reporting System figures show crimes against persons decreased by 7.2 percent in the third quarter (July to September). Crimes against property went down by 11.8 percent.

Halstead also praised citizen volunteers. “CODE:BLUE and Citizens On Patrol remain true partners in fighting crime in our neighborhoods — especially noticeable in the dramatic decreases in residential burglaries,” he said.
