Ephraim M. Daggett (1810-1883) was a merchant, legislator and early promoter of Fort Worth. Born in Upper Canada, he settled in Tarrant County in 1854. He opened a store in Fort Worth and campaigned for Fort Worth to replace Birdville as county seat. When the Texas and Pacific Railway planned its line through Fort Worth, Daggett donated 96 acres for a depot and tracks. After the arrival of the railroad, Daggett devoted most of his time to promoting Fort Worth and earning recognition as the "Father of Fort Worth."
The Fort Worth Library has approximately 10,000 items pertaining to the history of Fort Worth and Tarrant County. These items include city and county government documents, newspapers, directories, cemetery association records, maps as well as popular and scholarly books written by local authors or about local subjects.
