MAYOR'S COMMITTEE ON PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES
AUTHORITY FOR CREATION AND OPERATION: Authorized by resolution adopted by the City Council on May 12, 1981, formally recognizing the committee as one of the City's standing committees. Resolution No. 2034 was adopted by Council on January 17, 1995, changing the title from the Mayor's Committee for the Employment of Persons with Disability to Mayor's Committee on Persons with Disabilities. Resolution No. 3132 was adopted on October 12, 2004, reorganizing the Committee. Resolution No. 3907-07-2010 was adopted on July 27, 2010, reorganizing the Committee.
COMPOSITION: Membership is open to all interested citizens.
METHOD OF APPOINTMENT: Appointed by the Mayor.
TERMS OF OFFICE: Each member of the Committee shall be appointed to serve a term of two years, subject to the approval of the Mayor and the Fort Worth City Council; and each member organization and employer shall indicate an individual who will serve as its representative to the committee. Odd numbered appointment terms shall expire October first each odd numbered year. Even numbered appointment terms shall expire October first each even-numbered year.
GENERAL POWERS AND DUTIES: To promote and to support programs and activities for employment of the handicapped.
Members are not considered to be officers of the City of Fort Worth.
MEETING TIME AND PLACE: The Committee meets on the third Thursday of the first month of each quarter at 8:15 a.m. at the Hazel Harvey Peace Center, 818 Missouri Avenue. For meeting agendas, please see the Boards, Commissions and Committees page.
