ANIMAL SHELTER ADVISORY COMMITTEE

AUTHORITY FOR CREATION AND OPERATION

The Animal Shelter Advisory Committee was created pursuant to VTCA, Health and Safety Code, Section 823.005.  The Committee was created by Ordinance No. 11547, adopted April 19, 1994.

COMPOSITION

Seven members. The composition of the committee shall include at least one licensed veterinarian, at least one municipal official, at least one person whose duties include the daily operation of an animal shelter, and at least one representative from an animal welfare organization. The same person shall not be appointed to fulfill more than one of these requirements.

METHOD OF APPOINTMENT

Appointed by the City Council.

TERM OF OFFICE

Committee members shall serve two-year terms except as follows: Places 1, 3, 5, and 7 expire in odd-numbered years (October 1, 1995); and Places 2, 4 and 6 expire in even-numbered years (October 1, 1996).

GENERAL POWERS AND DUTIES

The purpose of the Committee shall be to assist animal shelters located in the city with compliance with Chapter 823 of the Health and Safety Code. Additionally, the committee may provide recommendations to the City regarding its compliance with the Texas Rabies Control Act, and may recommend ways to improve the efficiency and cost effectiveness of the City's animal control program.

Members are not considered to be officers of the City of Fort Worth.

MEETING TIME AND PLACE

The Committee shall meet a minimum of three time per calendar year at the Animal Care and Control Center, 4900 Martin Street. For meeting information and agendas, please see Boards, Commissions and Committees page.
