City Plan Commission
Authority for Creation & Operation: The Commission is authorized by Chapter 212, Title 7, Local Government Code, Vernon's Texas Annotated Codes, Texas, by Chapter XXVIII, Section 3, City Charter of the City of Fort Worth, and was created by Ordinance No. 1084, adopted on July 7, 1925, which was amended by Ordinance No. 5755, adopted on March 27, 1967, and Ordinance No. 7385, adopted on July 12, 1976.
Composition: Nine members.
Method of Appointment: Appointed by City Council. Only those persons who are qualified electors of the city and who have demonstrated their civic interest, general knowledge of the community, independent judgment, understanding of zoning and planning, and availability to prepare for and attend meetings, and who, by reason of diversity of the occupations, constitute a Commission which is broadly representative of the community shall be considered for appointment.
Terms of Office: The terms of five of the members shall expire on October 1 of each odd-numbered year. The members of the Commission shall be identified by Place numbers one through nine. The odd-numbered places shall expire in odd-numbered years and the even-numbered places shall expire in the even-numbered years. Commission members may be appointed to succeed themselves. Vacancies shall be filled for unexpired terms, but no member shall be appointed for a term in excess of three consecutive two year terms.
General Powers & Duties: The commission has the authority of final approval of subdivision plats; is an advisory body to the City Council on all matters relating to public improvements; and has such other duties and powers as specified in Ordinance No. 5755.
Members are considered to be officers of the City of Fort Worth.
