Clear the Shelters Day

 Clear the Shelters Day, Aug. 19, 2017, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Come find your perfect pet match Saturday, Aug. 19. Dallas/Fort Worth animal shelters will join together for Clear the Shelters Day to offer fee-waived adoptions on all adoptable dogs and cats at 67 area shelters. Clear the Shelters Day is the largest joint adoption event in Texas and the Fort Worth Animal Shelter will once again participate.

In 2014, 38 shelters participated in the inaugural Empty The Shelter Day event, which found homes for 2,273 animals. Last year, 67 shelters participated and about 7,500 pets were adopted, 301 of which were from Fort Worth Animal Care & Control.

Event Facts

  • Each adoption will include spay and neuter surgery, City of Fort Worth pet license, rabies vaccination and microchip. Adoptions will be free, but fees such as city registrations may still apply at certain shelters.
  • Pets of all sizes, ages, breeds, and personalities are waiting for loving families. Many people do not realize that approximately 20 percent of the animals in North Texas shelters are actually purebred!
  • Summer is the busiest time of the year for shelters, but last year’s event emptied several participating shelters and the Fort Worth Shelter had numerous rows of kennels completely empty – providing vital capacity for the next wave of pets that will enter the shelter.
