Why is this important?
Periodic inspections are used to verify that all aspects of a construction project – including but not limited to the plumbing system, HVAC systems, electrical systems, building exiting and access for the disabled – meet minimum safety requirements. The inspections are a necessary part of the building process but can cause delays if not completed by the requested date. Building inspections play a critical role in keeping buildings safe and healthy for our citizens.
In 2009, the same-day inspection rate dipped slightly for the year. It increased in subsequent years until 2013, when staff attrition began to affect the same-day inspection rate. In 2014, the inspection section reorganized, further decreasing the number of available personnel. Recent adjustments to staffing levels and new training has allowed the city to reach its goal of 98% for the first time since 2013.
