2018 Neighborhood Award Categories:
NEW: Fort Worth Neighbor of the Year Award recognizes an individual who has given outstanding service to improve and/or positively affect the lives of individuals in their neighborhood. Candidates for this award may often be referred to as the “unsung heroes” of their neighborhood.
Fort Worth Prideis awarded to a neighborhood association with a successful physical beautification or revitalization effort in 2018. The award recognizes neighborhoods that improve their physical space—including, but not limited to, parks, housing, lighting, traffic control, or other improvement projects.
Spirit of Fort Worth celebrates a neighborhood association that makes residents feel connected by focusing on social or cultural aspects of a neighborhood. The award is given to the association that exhibits the best spirit of neighborliness in 2018 through activities that promote working, playing or celebrating together.
Mayor's Civic Engagement and Community Collaboration Award honors a significant partnership and creative civic engagement initiative by a neighborhood organization or alliance to define a challenge, speak out, organize fellow neighbors, and work with their city, elected officials and/or other key stakeholders (schools, businesses, other neighborhood organizations) to find solutions that bring about positive change in their particular neighborhood and/or the city as a whole.
Mayor’s Health and Wellness Award honors a significant effort in 2018 on the part of a neighborhood organization to come together in the name of improving their health and wellness. This could be anything from forming a weekly exercise group to hosting community exercise events to improving access to recreational amenities.
Code Compliance Officer of the Year recognizes an officer who—in addition to performing duties of investigating, documenting and ensuring compliance with city zoning, codes, ordinances and regulations—also responds to public inquiries courteously and efficiently, maintaining positive customer service relationships at all times.
Neighborhood Patrol Officer (NPO) of the Year recognizes an NPO who—in addition to providing additional patrols and identifying crime trends in specific neighborhoods and/or geographic areas—also communicates with residents and business owners, attends community meetings and events, and fosters community leadership by recruiting volunteers for Citizens on Patrol, Crime Watch and other crime prevention tools.
The Danny Scarth Trailblazer Award recognizes a person who, in their everyday life, has raised awareness of living a life of value with a disability and made impactful changes in the Fort Worth community that improve life opportunities for persons with disabilities.
Neighborhood Newsletter Award acknowledges excellence in communicating news about neighborhood events and issues, as well as helping develop interest and involvement in neighborhoods. Printed and electronic newsletters published in 2018 will be judged on content and overall appearance.
