Paschal High School was founded in 1885 as Fort Worth High School. In 1891, the first Fort Worth High School was built and considered to be the finest school building in Texas.

In 1910, the school building burned to the ground and classes were moved to various elementary schools until a new high school was built on the corner of Jennings Avenue and Rosedale Street.

The school later moved again, to Cannon and College Street. From 1918-1923, Paschal was called Central High School. The first Pantherette, the school newspaper. which still exists today, was published in 1919. An issue from the fall of 1923 is seen here.

In 1935 R.L. Paschal, who had been the principal since 1906, announced his retirement and the school was renamed for him. A Mr. Bateman was the principal until 1940, when O.D. Wyatt took over as principal.

The first classes at the school’s Forest Park location were in the fall of 1955 and Paschal became the largest high school in Fort Worth. Wyatt retired as principal in 1962.

The Fort Worth Library has approximately 10,000 items pertaining to the history of Fort Worth and Tarrant County. These items include city and county government documents, newspapers, directories, cemetery association records, maps as well as popular and scholarly books written by local authors or about local subjects.
