Stock Show ferris wheel 1941

Whether you’re 5 or 65, you’re sure to enjoy the Fort Worth Stock Show’s carnival midway. Located on the east side of the Will Rogers Coliseum, the midway features six acres of excitement, from old-fashioned amusement park attractions to breathtaking thrill rides.

This photo shows a Ferris wheel, with advertisements, and was taken on the show’s midway March 8, 1941.

Generations of youngsters have made precious memories at the midway, and today’s kids will have just as much fun. You can hop aboard the MegaDrop and take a 140-foot plunge, or make a slower trip downhill on the largest traveling slide in North America. Take your family for a spin on the tilt-a-whirl, merry-go-round or Ferris wheel, or step up and try to win a prize at one of the skill games. When you get hungry, there’s a wide range of delicious delights: popcorn, candy apples, funnel cakes, turkey legs and more.

For more than a decade, Talley Amusements has provided the midway rides and entertainment.

The Fort Worth Library has approximately 10,000 items pertaining to the history of Fort Worth and Tarrant County. These items include city and county government documents, newspapers, directories, cemetery association records, maps as well as popular and scholarly books written by local authors or about local subjects.
