Featured School Green Team: Texas Academy of Biomedical Sciences
Posted Dec. 29, 2016
At the Texas Academy of Biomedical Sciences (TABS), students in the Green Stuff Club are ambitious when it comes to keeping Fort Worth beautiful.
Students recycled 4,000 pounds of material in the 2015-2016 school year, and are setting a goal to nearly double last year’s totals by collecting at least 3,000 pounds during the fall semester.
Robin Miner, the school’s nurse and a master composter, leads the Green Stuff Club and is constantly seeking opportunities for her students to be involved with “green happenings” in the community. Miner led a group of over 30 students for the 2016 Cowtown Great American Cleanup, and students also participated in the Trinity River Trash Bash.
Beyond just collecting litter and recyclables, Miner’s students maintain a garden on campus. Her vision is to plant fruit trees and berry bushes on underutilized portions of the school’s campus, and to keep bees on school grounds to help to pollinate the club’s and area plants.
