Fort Worth Resident Library Cards

Fort Worth Public Library Resident Borrower Cards are available at no charge to people, businesses, groups, or institutions residing in or owning property within the Fort Worth city limits. Applications are available in both Spanish and English. Proof of residency or property ownership is required.  If you do not qualify for a Resident Card, you may qualify for a MetrOPAC, TexShare, or Nonresident Card.

With your Resident Card, you may:

  1. Borrow materials from any Fort Worth or MetrOPAC (Benbrook, Burleson, Haltom City, Keller, Richland Hills, and Watauga) library.
  2. Access Fort Worth Public Library's subscription online products such as America's Genealogy Bank, OverDrive and ReferenceUSA from any PC with Internet access.
  3. Use the Library's public PCs.

How to Get a Library Card:

Visit any Fort Worth Public Library location.  Bring identification and verification of residency or property ownership.

You may complete a preliminary application online (click the Register for Card button).  However, you must visit any Fort Worth Public Library location to present ID and residency or property ownership verification to activate your card.

The following are acceptable forms of identification:

  • Texas Driver's License
  • Texas Department of Public Safety ID
  • Current school ID card
  • Military ID
  • Passport
  • Matricula consular (separate residency verification required)
  • Children 16 and younger may also use their current school ID, school transcript, or homeschool association documents.  The parent's or guardian's ID is also acceptable.

The following are acceptable verifications of current address or Fort Worth property ownership:

  • Texas Driver's License
  • Texas Department of Public Safety ID
  • First-class business mail postmarked within the last 30 days
  • Lease agreement signed by current landlord
  • Current insurance card if it includes the address
  • Current Medicaid card if it includes the address
  • Personal printed check if it includes the address
  • Report card for the current school year
  • Tarrant Appraisal District statement for current year
  • Tarrant County Assessor/Collector of Taxes statement for current year
  • Texas Department of Transportation Vehicle Registration
  • Texas vehicle insurance card
  • Utility bill postmarked within 30 days

  • A first-time adult borrower with current address verification may check out up to 5 items. Without address verification, adults are limited to 1 item until application is completed.
  • A first-time child borrower who has an adult present when applying may check out up to 5 items. Without an adult present, children may check out 1 item (except a DVD or videocassette).  They may check out more items when their application is completed with a parent's or guardian's signature.
  • Parents or guardians who wish to register children who are not with them at the time of registration must present the child's birth certificate, immunization record, school ID, school transcript, school report card, passport, visa, or military ID.
  • The adult whose signature is on a child's card is responsible for all materials checked out on that child's card.
  • Any card may be used to check out any materials.  The parent's or guardian's permission is required to check out DVDs and videocassettes on youth cards.
  • The maximum check out limit is 50 barcoded items, including ten video cassettes, ten compact discs, ten music cassettes, and ten DVDs.
  • Resident cards must be renewed every 3 years.  Property owner cards must be renewed every year. You must provide current ID and residency or property ownership verification to renew your card.
  • Customers are responsible for notifying the Library to update their address, phone number, and e-mail addresses. 
  • Customers should notify the library immediately if their card is lost or stolen.  You are responsible for all materials checked out on your card until you report the loss or theft.
  • If you have not used your card to check out materials, your card will be purged from the system after 3 years.

Accessing Your Account

You may access your account information 24/7 online or by phone.  TeleMessaging is the Library’s automated telephone circulation system. Call TeleMessaging at 817-392-7771 for information about your library account 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You’ll need your library barcode number, your PIN, a touchtone phone, and any items you’re renewing.  TeleMessaging is available in English and in Spanish.
