Fort Worth Library eCARD Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Who can get a Fort Worth Library eCARD?
A: eCARDs are available to Fort Worth residents and Fort Worth property owners. You must be 17 or older to receive an eCARD account online.

Q: What can I do with a Fort Worth Library eCARD?
A: You can read OverDrive ebooks and e-audiobooks, and access over 100 online learning tools and research databases. Your eCARD also gives you full access to the Fort Worth Library’s entire physical collection of over 1 million books, DVDs, audiobooks, music CDs, and magazines. Search the catalog for your favorites!

You can log into your Fort Worth Library account from the library’s website using your eCARD number and your password to place hold requests, create reading lists, set up alerts for new titles of interest, update your account preferences, and pay your fines.

Q: Can I check out books, DVDs, CDs, and other materials with my eCARD?
A: Yes! If you want to check out physical items, just visit any Fort Worth Library location. Have your eCARD number handy, and be sure to bring a photo ID with your address or other acceptable ID so we can confirm your identity. If you want an actual library card, just let us know and we’ll set you up with one.

Q: I already have a Fort Worth Library card. Do I need an eCARD to use OverDrive?
A: No, your Fort Worth Library card already gives you access to that service. eCARD will not complete the online registration if you already have a card.

Q: How long is my eCARD valid?
A: Your eCARD is good for three years, and can be renewed at any Fort Worth Library as long as you still live or own property in Fort Worth. You’ll receive an email reminder 2 weeks before your card expires. We’ll send you a reminder email shortly before your eCARD expires. If you want to check your card’s expiration date and other information about your account, simply login to your account from the library’s website.

Q: I prefer to receive mail at a different address. Can I put my mailing address in my eCARD registration?
A: No. We need your residence or property ownership address in the application so we can confirm you live or own property in Fort Worth. If you wish to add a mailing address to your account, please email digitallibrary@fortworthtexas.gov.

Q: Can I add the name of someone else who can have access to my account?
A: Yes. Please email digitallibrary@fortworthtexas.gov for help with this.

Q: Can I renew my card online?
A: Not at this time. This is something we hope to offer in the future. For now, you’ll have to visit a Fort Worth Library location to renew your card.

Q: Why can’t eCARD confirm my address?
A: eCARD may not be able to verify brand new addresses, property owners’ addresses, and some apartment addresses. If eCARD can’t verify your address, please email digitallibrary@fortworthtexas.gov.

Q: I’ve lost my library account number. What do I do?
A: Email digitallibrary@fortworthtexas.gov. Give us your full name, address, phone number, and birth date. We’ll help you retrieve it.

Q: Why can’t I register my child online?
A: The Library requires a parent or guardian’s name and approval for the child to have a library card. eCARD cannot handle that approval process.

Q: I never received the welcoming email.
A: You might have security settings that are blocking the email. Please check your spam/junk mail folder, and add ecard@fortworthtexas.gov to your safe senders list. Also check your security software settings.

Q: Can I use eCARD online registration to replace a lost or stolen card?
A: No. Please contact the library immediately to report your lost or stolen card. You’ll need to replace it in person at any Fort Worth Library location.

Q: Can I purchase a non-resident eCARD online?
A: Not at this time. We might be able to offer that in the future.
