David Farmer Southwestern Art Collection


David Farmer, PhD, retired from a career as a professor and administrator of rare book libraries. Prior to retirement, he was the Director of The DeGolyer Library at Southern Methodist University for sixteen years. Dr. Farmer collected books and other publications pertaining to Southwestern Art.


This collection was assembled by David Farmer. It was purchased in 2008 for the Fort Worth Library by the Fort Worth Library Foundation, with the exception of Subseries I and II which were purchased by Dr. John Freese.

Scope and Contents

This collection contains books, exhibition catalogs and other materials representing artists and exhibitions from the Southwestern United States, especially New Mexico, Texas, and California. The collection has been kept in its original order, and the description of the materials provided by the donor has been maintained with the exception of Item 80, John Sloan, 1945, which was moved from Publications to the Core Collection of books because it is a hardback book, and contents of folders indicated with an asterisk (*). The collection measures 8 LF (6.33 LF books and 4 boxes). The date range of the collection is 1936 - 2007.
