William Byron Smith was born in Long Street, LA. He came to Fort Worth in 1946 and built and operated the Rocket Club until his retirement in 1973. His wife, Cordia Iones Smith was co-owner and operator of the Rocket Club until 1973. She died on July 23, 1995.
William D. Satterwhite was the manager of the club during this time period before he moved to the Skyliner Club. The acts that played at The Rocket consisted of ballroom dancers, acrobats, jugglers, magicians, comedians and exotic dancers.
Probate Judge Steven King who presided over the estate of William B. Smith in 2004 donated the collection to the Library.
Scope and Contents Note
The collection consists of receipts, clippings, and publicity photographs of the various acts and candid photographs of the nightclub patrons. The publicity photographs consist of photographs of the acts that played the Rocket and potential acts. There are 4 boxes (2 linear ft.) in the collection.
