The Fort Worth Public Library Foundation and Fort Worth Library announce completion of major improvements at the Central Library
The Fort Worth Public Library Foundation celebrated the completion of two capital improvement projects in the Central Library supported by the Sid W. Richardson Foundation and Speedway Children’s Charities as part of the Worth Reading Celebration held on Saturday, January 10, 2015.
Library Director Gleniece Robinson said, “We are excited for the new reading and distance learning programs that we are able to offer as a result of these improvements. Children and families will visit the Central Library as a downtown destination.”
The Sid W. Richardson Discovery Theatre is a vibrant space for children to learn, play, craft and interact with each other—in person and around the globe through distance learning programming. Programming demonstrations were held in the theatre on Saturday among the colorful ceiling, floor and lights.
A grant from Speedway Children’s Charities created Fast Track to Reading, a racing-themed area dedicated to children’s reading programs. Texas Motor Speedway President Eddie Gossage read to children and families just steps away from a child sized NASCAR replica. To encourage reading and a love of learning, Speedway Children’s Charities will bring race car drivers, pit crews, mechanics and other racing personnel for family reading opportunities in the Central Library. Cub scouts have donated their Pinewood derby model cars for display on the large overhead track and plan to hold their annual Pinewood derby at the library in March.
“Funding from private donors brought these projects to life. We are grateful to the Sid W. Richardson Foundation and Speedway Children’s Charities for enhancing the library and engaging children and adults through active participation in reading, learning and developing social skills in a fun environment,” stated Library Foundation President Leslie Oliver.
