Listed among the worst highways for congestion, I-35W will see work north of U.S. 287 in the future.

New ramps will open at the I-35W/IH 820 interchange in the early part of this year, marking a major milestone on the I-35W construction that began last year.

The direct connectors from westbound IH 820 to southbound I-35W and from eastbound IH 820 to northbound I-35W will switch to their final configuration from left-lane exit ramps to right-lane exit ramps. Drivers will need to exercise caution in this area as other drivers adjust to the switch.

As work continues along I-35W at a rapid pace, plans are taking shape to expand I-35W from the US 287 cutoff north to Eagle Parkway, improving mobility through AllianceTexas, a major economic engine for North Texas and the state.

“I-35W in north Fort Worth is one of Texas’ 100 most congested corridors,” said TxDOT Fort Worth District Engineer Brian Barth. “Businesses and homes are growing exponentially through the Alliance area up into Denton County. Continuing the widening of I-35W from U.S. 287 to Eagle Parkway makes sense in improving mobility and safety.”

Subscribing to North Tarrant Express e-alerts and checking the website for updated closure and detour announcements are two easy ways to stay on top of upcoming construction activities and areas that may have delays.
