Berry/University development plan ready for review

Recent events — significant flooding events, the planned addition of a TEX Rail station and unprecedented growth at TCU — have put pressure on surrounding neighborhoods that must be addressed.

The development plan for the Berry/University area will be presented at a meeting scheduled for 6 p.m. Feb. 11 at University United Methodist Church, 2416 W. Berry St. The plan represents a shared vision for the future of the Berry/University area and serves as a guide for the creation of a form-based code.

In October 2014, an extensive five-day public input process was conducted to find out the community’s vision for the future of the area. A development plan containing these ideas and recommendations for moving forward is ready to be reviewed.

The development plan serves as a guide for the creation of a form-based code and outlines recommendations for future development, street design and connectivity, landscaping, future transportation, stormwater mitigation and pedestrian-friendly areas.

The North Central Texas Council of Government’s Sustainable Development Grant Program partnered with the city, the Fort Worth Transportation Authority (The T), Texas Christian University and the Berry Street Initiative to fund the project.

The project area is in Council District 9.
