Fort Worth residents who use the city’s Planning and Development services will feel empowered and more in control of their time with a new appointment scheduler launched this week.

The new technology provides an effortless way for customers to quickly access services without waiting in lengthy lines at City Hall.

The new queue management solution went live Jan. 3 and will eliminate longer onsite wait lines, allowing virtual check-in where customers can join a virtual queue via mobile phone, website or onsite kiosk at the customer service reception desk on the lower level of City Hall, 200 Texas St.

“The Planning and Development Department is always looking for ways to improve our processes and our customers’ experience,” said Allison Gray, assistant planning and development director. “This tool should allow people to join a permit line from their mobile phone, giving them updates about their place in line and allowing them to arrive at City Hall near the time they will be seen, eliminating unnecessary wait time.”

The new system will provide timely updates and notifications that alert customers as they move to the front of a service queue. It will allow staff to schedule appointments, manage lines and even steer customers to less busy times of the day to allow for optimal service delivery.

The appointment scheduler can be used to sign up for a variety of permits offered by the Planning and Development Department, including building and trade permits, contractor registrations and alarm and parkway permits. In addition, customers can schedule consultations with residential or commercial plans examiners and schedule pre-development conferences.

“The software will actually learn as we use it, and the time projections for each type of service will become more and more accurate,” Gray said. “We are excited to begin implementation.”
