The City Council approved a resolution to name the latest addition to the city’s library system the Golden Triangle Branch Library.
City staff held two community meetings to gather resident input, and Golden Triangle was the preferred name.
The library will feature a meeting room; makerspace; state-of-the-art technology; a large collection of books, music and movies; and a Municipal Court satellite service location.
In 2015, the City Council approved a land purchase for a new far north library. A 3½-acre parcel at 4264 Golden Triangle Blvd. was purchased for $1,524,600 plus closing costs. The site was chosen based on its proximity to neighborhood schools, residential and commercial property and access to a major arterial street.
Voters approved $9.15 million in the 2014 bond program to construct and equip the new library.
Construction is scheduled to begin in June 2017, with a tentative opening scheduled for summer 2018.
The library will be in Council District 7.
