Chapel Creek Bridge utility relocation coordination to be finished mid-May

Posted April 11, 2017 | Last updated April 14, 2017

Crews continue to relocate utilities in preparation for construction on the Chapel Creek Bridge over Interstate 30.

Utility relocation is expected to last until mid-May. Currently, Charter is relocating their utility lines and will be finished by April 19.

Oncor redirected crews from this and other local projects to help restore power to customers affected by the recent storms. However, crews have returned and work is continuing.

The Texas Department of Transportation is managing the construction of the bridge. They expect to begin construction activities three weeks after the utility relocation concludes. That means construction should start the first week of June if there are no weather delays.

Maintenance repairs on Old Weatherford Road from Chapel Creek Boulevard to Loop 820 have been completed.

The existing two-lane bridge is being replaced with a new six-lane bridge over I-30. A turnaround bridge will also be constructed on the east side of the new bridge.

Temporary traffic signals during construction were not approved by the Texas Department of Transportation so stop signs on southbound Chapel Creek Boulevard at IH-30 will remain in place. The city will continue to monitor traffic in the area during construction.

Motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes. Recommended alternate routes include:

Eastbound Routes

  • East on Westpoint Boulevard to Las Vegas Trail then I-30
  • East White Settlement Road to Loop 820
  • East on Camp Bowie West Boulevard to Loop 820

Westbound Routes

  • East on Old Weatherford Road to Westbound Frontage Road
  • East on Westpoint Boulevard to Loop 820 Frontage Road then I-30 West
  • West on Camp Bowie Boulevard West to I-30

Maintenance repairs to improve driving conditions on Old Weatherford Road from Chapel Creek Boulevard to Loop 820 are scheduled to be completed by the end of April.
