Colleagues present for the inaugural presentation of the Rudy Jackson Legacy of Leadership Award were retired Assistant Chief David Coble (currently Tyler Fire Chief); City Manager David Cooke; Assistant Fire Director Mark Rauscher; Chief Jackson; Assistant Chief Ken Stevens; Assistant City Manager Valerie Washington; Assistant Chief Pat Vasquez; retired Deputy Chief Bobby Tatum (currently Waco Fire Chief); and retired Assistant Chief Tim Hatch.

A new award has been named for Fort Worth Fire Chief Rudy Jackson, and he was recently the first recipient.

The Rudy Jackson Legacy of Leadership Award will be presented to future members of the FWFD who rise through the ranks of the department, from firefighter to fire chief. The recipient must display an entire career of leadership and exemplary public service. The individual must maintain the respect of his or her fellow firefighters and earn the trust of city leadership.

Jackson is the first chief to have started a career with the Fort Worth Fire Department and go on to achieve every rank up to chief. This feat is uncommon in large metropolitan fire departments.
