A community meeting to discuss the Montgomery Street construction schedule is planned for 6 p.m. June 12 at the University of North Texas Health Science Center Education and Training Building (Room 125), 1000 Montgomery St.

The plan is to transform the one-mile section of Montgomery — from I-30 to Camp Bowie Boulevard — into a safe and attractive gateway to the city’s Cultural District.

Crews are currently burying overhead utilities, relocating and replacing gas mains, and upgrading water and sewer pipes for new development.

Road construction is expected to begin in June, which includes replacing and upgrading storm drains, paving, streetlights and traffic signals.

Plans include 11-foot-wide traffic and turn lanes, allowing Montgomery Street to handle all types of traffic — commuters, museum-goers and those livestock trailers headed for Will Rogers and the new Dickies Arena — more easily.

When complete, Montgomery will be safer for all users, including pedestrians and cyclists.

Roadwork will be completed in phases, with the southbound lanes first on the list.

But good things take time, and the Montgomery makeover is on schedule and expected to be completed in early fall of 2019 – in time for the opening of the new Dickies Arena.
