First West Nile Virus-positive mosquito sample of 2017 reported in south Fort Worth

Posted May 10, 2017

Tarrant County Public Health informed city officials Wednesday afternoon that a mosquito sample from south Fort Worth tested positive for West Nile Virus, the first of 2017.

The sample was collected at Fire Station 28, located off Everman Parkway.

While no human cases have been reported, city officials are asking residents to help prevent the spread of mosquito-borne illnesses by removing standing water from their property and taking precautions when outdoors. Learn more about ways to protect against mosquitos on the city’s information page.

Code Compliance officers will be monitoring the area near Fire Station 28 for litter and debris that could invite mosquitoes to breed and nest.

To report standing water at a location that is not city property, call the city’s Customer Care Center at 817-392-1234.
