The Texas Department of Transportation will close the northbound and southbound Interstate 35W main lanes from 9 p.m. June 19 through 6 a.m. June 20 for bridge construction, weather permitting.
The main lane closures will alternate directions during construction, starting with the northbound side. After construction is completed over the northbound lanes, they will reopen and southbound I-35W will be closed for the duration of construction. During the closures, motorists will be detoured to the frontage road and will enter I-35W past Garden Acres Drive. The Garden Acres Drive bridge will also be closed during construction.
The $6.1 million Garden Acres Drive bridge project over I-35W consists of building a new westbound bridge with two through lanes, a dedicated left-turn lane and sidewalks. The existing eastbound bridge will have sidewalks installed and will be restriped for two through lanes and a dedicated left-turn lane. New signals will be included, and right-turn bays will be added to the northbound and southbound frontage road intersections with Garden Acres Drive.
The project is estimated for completion in summer of 2018.
