Municipal Court: Beware of scam artists

Posted July 10, 2017

The Fort Worth Municipal Court advises residents to become aware of and use authorized payment methods after a small number of people have reported phone calls designed to defraud residents for alleged outstanding warrant fees and fines.

One resident reported receiving a call from a person who identified herself as an officer, who then told the resident that payment for a warrant was needed immediately in order to avoid going to jail.

A Municipal Court official called the number provided by the fake officer, who hung up when questioned about her credentials.

Sgt. Charles Boykin of the Fort Worth Police Department’s Fraud Unit said such telephone scams are fairly common, and residents should call the PD’s non-emergency number, 817-392-4222, to report any scams or suspicious behavior.

To verify authorized payment options for outstanding fines, go online or contact the Municipal Court during regular business hours at 817-392-6700.
