Texans will celebrate the 34th annual National Night Out on Oct. 3.

The Fort Worth Police Department invites all residents to participate in the celebration. Residents are asked to turn on their outside lights and spend the evening outdoors with their neighbors, public safety officers and other city personnel.

Last year, National Night Out involved 38 million people in 16,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide. National Night Out 2017 is expected to be the largest ever.

National Night Out is designed to:

  • Heighten awareness of crime prevention.
  • Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime efforts.
  • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.
  • Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back against crime.

Sign up by Sept. 25.
