A new soccer field at Sycamore Park feature a Pure Play sports turf. The field is built on the site of four old tennis courts that seldom saw play.

The Fort Worth Vaqueros and the Fort Worth Park and Recreation Department will cut the ribbon on a new soccer field June 30.

The soccer field is at Sycamore Park, 2400 E. Vickery Blvd. It was built on the site of four tennis courts that were installed in 1915. The seldom-used tennis courts are the perfect location for the Vaqueros’ new youth soccer academy.

The Vaqueros will use the field to train kids from the Fort Worth area for a youth club team. The club will field seven-on-seven teams in the age groups of U-7 to U-12. Organized youth and adult leagues, including coed teams, are scheduled to play Friday nights through Sundays.

“Through this public-private partnership, the new soccer fields provide state-of-the-art recreational amenities for Fort Worth residents and visitors,” City Manager David Cooke said. “City staff, along with the City Council, had a vision for a new community soccer facility, and that’s exactly what we have now. While we’re all enjoying World Cup play this summer, we can look forward to also watching exciting soccer matches right here in Fort Worth.”

Vaqueros Youth Academy director Mark Snell said the new field will be a “community soccer hub for Fort Worth.”

“This facility provides the key piece to offering a free academy for Fort Worth’s most deserving youth players. Additionally, open play and adult men’s, women’s and co-ed teams and participants will enjoy their time on one of the nation’s top surfaces,” Snell said.
