Work on Hemphill-Lamar connection continues

Posted Oct. 26, 2017

Progress is being made on a new connection to the central business district. Construction began this month on the Hemphill-Lamar Connector.

Crews began demolishing and clearing the north area of the project. Prior to the beginning of excavation for a new embankment, the team identified utility lines in the area.

The Hemphill-Lamar Connector project will be completed in two phases. The first phase will construct the railroad bridge for the Union Pacific Railroad. The second phase will complete the underpass and roadway that connects Lancaster Avenue to West Vickery Boulevard.

Construction is expected to last approximately 30 months with completion in early 2020.

Total cost of the project is $53 million dollars with the city contributing $26.6 million. The remaining funding will come from the North Central Texas Council of Governments, Texas Department of Transportation and Tarrant County.
