The holiday season officially begins in Sundance Square when a beautiful live tree is erected and decorated on the Plaza.

Sundance Square will kick off its holiday festivities with the arrival of the Sundance Square Christmas Tree at 9:30 a.m. Nov. 13.

Local dignitaries will join Sundance Square officials in the annual tradition of hoisting the giant tree, a 65-foot concolor fir from Big Rapids, Mich., into place in the center of Sundance Square Plaza, 201 Main St.

Over the course of the next week, a talented crew of decorators will work their magic and adorn the tree with thousands of LED lights, snowflakes and ornaments. The nearly 10,000 lights, the most ever used, will be powered by 100 percent renewable energy from Green Mountain Energy Co.

The official tree lighting ceremony is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Nov. 18. Children will enjoy their first visit of the season with Santa Claus, live music and photo opportunities throughout the plaza.

The next evening, Nov. 19, the XTO Parade of Lights rolls through downtown starting at 6 p.m. Reserved seats are still available for purchase. The Parade of Lights is produced by Downtown Fort Worth Inc.

After the holidays, the Sundance Square Christmas tree will be recycled and used for a Habitat for Humanity house to be constructed next spring.

Sundance Square is expecting about 1 million visitors during the holiday season.
