The $1.4 billion North Tarrant Express 35W project includes a 6.5-mile section of roadway that ranked 23rd on the state's most congested roadways list.

The I-35W project is now 96 percent complete and drivers are anxiously awaiting the final portion of the project to wrap up.

Once complete, the final phase will enable motorists to take TEXpress lanes into downtown Fort Worth. Significant construction operations will continue for the next several weeks as final pavement is placed between the Trinity River and I-30.

Recently reopened ramps:

  • Off-ramp from eastbound I-820 to Beach Street.
  • Off-ramp from southbound I-35W to westbound Spur 280 near downtown.
  • Off-ramp from northbound I-35W to Carver Street.

This spring, North Tarrant Express Mobility Partners announced the early opening of the northern section of the I-35W project. The new section extends from the I-820/I-35W interchange to Northside Drive. It includes four more miles with three additional entrance ramps and three exit ramps. The final phase, from Northside Drive to I-30, is scheduled to open later this summer.
