For the first time in Texas, local businesses are certified as part of the Age-Friendly Network, and four in Fort Worth are the first to claim that distinction.

The businesses are Chadra Mezza & Grill, Katten & Benson Law Firm, First Financial Bank Fort Worth Region and the UNT HSC Clinical Practice Group.

Enhancements required of Certified Age-Friendly Businesses range from wheelchair ramps and accessible entrances to special employee training and improved website navigation. All of these best practices add up to a better customer experience for older individuals.

The City of Fort Worth, a designated Age-Friendly Community, has prioritized making citywide changes that foster a livable environment for people of all ages. These aspects include housing, transportation, green spaces and now, Certified Age-Friendly local businesses.

About Age-Friendly Communities

Fort Worth became the first Age-Friendly Community in Texas last year. The AARP Network of Age-Friendly Communities helps participating communities become great places for all ages by adopting such features as safe, walkable streets; better housing and transportation options; access to key services; and opportunities for residents to participate in community activities.

Fort Worth has formed a partnership with Dementia-Friendly Fort Worth. A website for Age-Friendly Fort Worth will launch later this year.

In the U.S., more than three dozen communities representing more than a dozen states are enrolled in the AARP Network of Age-Friendly Communities.
