Rain barrels allow homeowners to use rainwater to grow healthy and lush plants and supplement the water supply.

Save water by using a rain barrel to collect water for gardens, lawns and washing the car.

Fifty-gallon rain barrels can be purchased Aug. 23-Sept. 23 for $40. All sales are online. There is a limit of two barrels per customer while supplies last.

Orders must be placed by noon Sept. 23. Rain barrel pickup is set for 9-11 a.m. Sept. 29 at the Botanical Research Institute of Texas, 1700 University Drive.

The 50-gallon rain barrel is made in the United States from 100 percent recycled plastic and features a childproof locking lid, bug-proof screen, a ¾-inch ball valve that easily connects to a garden hose and two built-in overflow ports, one of which can be used to link additional barrels. All parts are included and ready to set up.
