Fort Worth drinking water is filling water bottles for distribution to Austin residents during the boil-water advisory.

Fort Worth sent a 6,000-gallon water tanker and staff to Austin Tuesday to assist with distribution of potable drinking water while Austin is dealing with a boil-water advisory caused by recent heavy rainfall.

A supervisor and two crew leaders accompanied the tanker. In addition, an assistant director and assistant superintendent, with a pickup full of several thousand 2.5-gallon and 5-gallon water bottles, went for the day Tuesday to ensure smooth implementation.

The tanker and staff departed about 4 a.m., reporting to the Austin Emergency Center base of operations at the Travis County Expo Center. They were later dispatched to a water distribution center set up in Walnut Creek Park.

The staff and tanker could be in Austin for an extended amount of time. The Austin Emergency Operations Center will determine how and where the tanker is used and where it is refilled.
