Raise your awareness of the transformative power of literacy, visit authors and take part in family-friendly activities at the second annual Fort Worth BookFest, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Oct. 20 at Tarrant County College’s Trinity River Campus, 300 Trinity Campus Circle.

Activities include a parade of characters, Nuestros Cuentos/Our Stories, spoken word competition, author presentations and more.

Additionally, the City of Fort Worth Human Relations Commission will host a screening of American Denial as part of its Movies That Matter film program. The hour-long film begins at 4 p.m. and explores how we assiduously blind ourselves to recognizing racial injustices — unconscious bias, bigotry, prejudice and their long, dark consequences — and examine the ways in which we deny or rationalize biases and practices that violate our bedrock beliefs and the historic and contemporary consequences of that denial. A facilitated community conversations will follow the film.

All activities at BookFest are free and family-friendly.
