Each year on Nov. 15, millions of people across the United States take part in America Recycles Day, a day created to raise awareness about recycling and the purchasing of recycled products.

Recycling in Fort Worth is really simple, and the city hopes more residents decide that recycling is the right thing to do.

Every resident has a blue recycling cart to be filled with plastic, metal, glass containers and all kinds of paper.

And let’s recycle right, too. When items that can’t be recycled are tossed into the blue cart to be sorted at the recycle processing center, this material ends up going to the landfill. Because of all the additional handling, it costs about three times as much as it would if this material had been put in the brown cart to begin with.

Items on the do-not-recycle list include Styrofoam, plastic bags, plastic hoses and food scraps.

What about cardboard? Yes, nearly everything made from cardboard can be recycled in Fort Worth: toothpaste containers, cereal boxes, shipping boxes (flattened) and frozen food containers, to name a few.

For a complete list of what can be recycled in Fort Worth, visit the recycling page or call 817-392-1234.
