Mayor Betsy Price and Noah Drew, director of FitWorth, present a $1,000 check to Hubbard Heights Elementary School for new recreation equipment.

Hubbard Heights Elementary and W.J. Turner Elementary won Mayor Betsy Price’s FitWorth Challenge. Students at these schools made it to the top by increasing their physical activity and healthy eating habits.

The winner for physical activity was Hubbard Heights Elementary School. With support from Oncor Electric Delivery, Hubbard Heights received $1,000 for new PE and recess equipment.

The winner for fruit and vegetable consumption was W.J. Turner Elementary School, which received a new salad bar for the school cafeteria. The salad bar was donated to Fort Worth ISD with support from United Fresh Start Foundation and FreshPoint Dallas.

This year, more than 29,000 FWISD students logged 23 million minutes of physical activity (5,000 more students than last year), 1.7 million servings of fruits and vegetables, 3.7 million servings of water and 12.9 million minutes of reading.

FWISD teachers got involved, too. More than 1,300 teachers tried to eat five servings of fruits and vegetables every day.
