Citizen foresters plant street trees in a Fort Worth neighborhood.

Registration is now open for citizen forester training. Become an expert volunteer and a steward of the urban forest.

The citizen forester program is sponsored by a partnership between the Cross Timbers Urban Forestry Council and the City of Fort Worth’s Forestry Section. Once the training is completed, volunteer time is focused on publicly-owned trees such as those in parks, along streets or in school yards. Volunteer activities might include planting, pruning, mulching, preparing inventories and evaluating storm damage. Citizen foresters also deliver presentations to groups wishing to learn more about tree benefits and maintenance.

The 2019 citizen forester training program will consist of 10 sessions, held on the third Wednesday of each month from March to December in Fort Worth. Each session will be a mix of classroom and hands-on training.

Currently, volunteer foresters are performing very meaningful work by conducting ash tree surveys in preparation for the emerald ash borer, a harmful pest to ash trees in North Texas.
