Nixle alerts can be sent to cell phones and email addresses.

Severe weather season will be arriving soon in North Texas.

Be prepared for dangerous tornadic or flash flooding situations by purchasing a NOAA All Hazards Weather Radio to receive alerts directly from the National Weather Service in Fort Worth. And be sure to register for alerts from the Fire Department Office of Emergency Management.

Residents, students, visitors and people employed in Fort Worth have several options for receiving alerts:

  • Free English text alerts to cell phones and email are available from the Office of Emergency Management (OEM) by texting a selected ZIP code to 888777 or by registering online. Multiple ZIP codes may be entered when registration is completed online.
  • Individuals wishing to receive Spanish-language captioned and verbal alerts should register online.
  • Fort Worth residents with a hearing or vision functional need can register for visual alerts transmitted in American Sign Language; a video-capable device is required. The alerts are also captioned in English and Spanish, with verbal messages in both languages. Braille is also provided for residents who use a refreshable Braille reader.

During natural or man-made incidents, OEM will activate the 147-siren outdoor warning system to provide alerts to people who are outdoors. Depending on the type of emergency, all or some of the sirens will be activated when:

  • A tornado warning has been issued for Fort Worth by the National Weather Service.
  • Winds of 70 mph or stronger are occurring.
  • Hail 1.5 inches in diameter is reported.
  • A state or federal disaster has been issued by the governor or president.
  • An Office of Emergency Management duty officer deems it necessary.

Residents who cannot hear activated sirens inside their residences or workplaces should register online for Nixle emergency alert texts or text a ZIP code to 888777.
