Storm damage? Here’s what you need to know

Posted March 14, 2019

As a result of the recent storm in Fort Worth, some residents may have experienced storm damage resulting in downed branches, limbs, trees and fences. The city’s goal is to provide residents time to clean up and to offer convenient options for disposal.

Over the next four weeks, the city will not charge to collect tree debris piles resulting from the storm. Residents have multiple options for disposing of storm debris:

  • Weekly yard collection. Piles of brush, branches, limbs and small cut-up trees — up to 10 cubic yards — can be set out during your normal weekly yard waste collection for the next four weeks and the city will collect all of the materials.
  • Bulk collection. Larger tree-related storm debris as well as non-wood storm debris can be set out on your regularly scheduled bulk week. The city will allow debris piles larger than 10 cubic yards. This is extended only for debris as a result of the storms — no appliances, mattresses, furniture, etc.
  • Drop-off stations. Take storm debris to one of the city’s four Drop-Off Stations.

Following these simple guidelines will help the contractors stay on schedule for collection:

  • Place bulk items on the curb by 7 a.m. Monday of your assigned week. You may place items on the curb as early as 6 p.m. the Friday before your assigned week.
    • Tree limbs that are greater than four inches in diameter or longer than eight feet are considered bulk.
    • If you're putting out other bulk items, such as metal fencing, they need to be kept separate from the yard debris to allow for proper and timely collection.
  • Yard waste is collected weekly, the same day as your garbage and recycling.
    • Yard waste collections include small tree limbs, shrubs and bagged yard debris. (Must be bagged in paper yard bags, no plastic bags allowed). These items should be smaller than four inches in diameter and less than eight feet long.
