Using worksheets to calculate income and expenses, workshop participants walk through the basics of a development project by applying sample site plans to example zoning classifications.

An upcoming one-day workshop will help aspiring real estate developers feel more prepared to take the first steps on their own project.

Near Southside Inc. is presenting the Small-Scale Development Workshop from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 11 at The Women’s Club of Fort Worth, 1316 Pennsylvania Ave.

The workshop will focus on project formation. Leaders take a big-picture view of neighborhood-based development to help attendees analyze what makes a good project, how a building makes money and how small developers interact with the broader ecosystem of professionals in the built environment. By the end of the workshop, aspiring developers will feel more prepared to take the first steps on their own project.

Class activities include a personal skills assessment to identify gaps in expertise; an example exercise, walking through a development project; and presentations on finance, zoning, strategy and other topics.

Register online. Early registration ($185) is open until, June 11. Regular registration ($215) is open until July 8. Last-minute registration ($245) will be open until the day of the event as long as space is available.
