To help build a more resilient city, the Fort Worth Fire Department is hosting a community risk-reduction event as part of Fire Prevention Week.

Fort Worth residents can learn how to respond during an active threat incident, plan for natural or man-made emergencies, control bleeding and perform hands-only CPR at a training event Oct. 8 at the Bob Bolen Public Safety Complex, 505 W. Felix St.

“In most cases, the person who can provide immediate care is not a trained health care provider or first responder,” said Fire Chief James Davis. “These trainings teach basic principles to members in our community so they may provide immediate, frontline aid to reduce injury and lives lost.”

There is a morning session (9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.) and an afternoon session (noon to 3:30 p.m.). The sessions are identical; it is not required to attend both.

The workshop combines four disaster preparedness trainings: active threat events, out-of-hospital cardiac arrest, life-threatening bleeding and other natural or man-made emergencies.

There is no charge to attend one of the training sessions, but registration is required. Arrive early; the facility requires entry through metal detectors.
