Every year millions of Americans find themselves unable to vote because they miss a registration deadline, don’t update their registration or aren’t sure how to register. National Voter Registration Day organizers wants to make sure everyone has the opportunity to vote.
On Sept. 24, volunteers and organizations from all over the country will hit the streets in a single day of coordinated field, technology and media efforts. National Voter Registration Day seeks to create broad awareness of voter registration opportunities to reach tens of thousands of voters who may not register otherwise.
Locally, the Fort Worth Public Library is registered as a partner in National Voter Registration Day activities. All library branches will encourage patrons to register or to update their information if they have recently moved.
Tarrant County Election officials will staff a table at the Central Library, 500 W. Third St., from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. League of Women Voters volunteers will visit selected branches to conduct registration outreach.
National Voter Registration Day started in 2012 to celebrate democracy. Endorsed by the National Association of Secretaries of State, the event is observed on the fourth Tuesday of every September. It is additionally supported by election officials across the country.
