A landmark-sized mural is underway on West Magnolia Avenue. Brooklyn artist Eric Inkala has a signature style that merges graffiti, pop art and contemporary art using bold color palettes.

Near Southside Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone board members unanimously approved a resolution to begin the process of establishing a creative business incubator in the district.

The TIF will fund a development study that will outline strategies, partnerships, development concepts and implementation steps for the incubator.

Artspace, a Minnesota-based nonprofit arts organization, will be hired to conduct the assessment, which will cost about $37,000. The final report is expected to be complete by summer 2020.

Near Southside Inc. would then work in partnership with Artspace and other local partners to build and operate a creative business incubator with affordable spaces for artists to live and work.
