City takes additional action to reduce the spread of COVID-19

Posted March 18, 2020

The City of Fort Worth will take further actions in response to COVID-19, as Tarrant County has its first reported case of community spread. Effective at 12:01 a.m. on March 19, 2020, all bars and restaurants will transition to take-out and delivery service only – prohibiting dine-in service.

Public gatherings are limited to no more than 50 people, and retail establishments must reduce occupancy rates to 50 percent. This reduction is based on the establishment’s certificate of occupancy, limiting total occupancy to 125 people or 50 percent of the capacity - whichever is less.

Other businesses that are closing include bars, lounges, taverns, commercial amusement businesses, theatres, gyms and private clubs. Other entertainment / amusement businesses also include: indoor/outdoor amusement facilities, baseball/softball facility (commercial), bowling alleys, bingo halls, health or recreation clubs, lodges or civic clubs, massage parlors, museums, cultural facilities, shooting or weapons firing ranges, stables, and rodeo arenas.

The decision to temporarily close these establishments is based on CDC recommendations, including factors such as close proximity of patrons.

The occupancy limit does not apply to: grocery stores, government facilities, residential buildings, medical facilities, daycares, homeless or emergency shelters, non-profit service providers, airports or other critical infrastructure such as transit facilities, manufacturing and industrial locations, and office buildings.

The City of Fort Worth continues to stress the importance of social distancing, particularly at places like grocery stores and pharmacies. Only go out when absolutely necessary and talk to younger generations about heeding the same warnings. This is critical for the health and well-being of all residents.

These steps are critical efforts to flatten the curve against the spread of COVID-19. All actions are based on the advice from public health and medical experts and in accordance with the direction from the CDC.

The City will continue to update residents on Facebook live at 6 p.m. every weekday and broadcast updates via the city’s cable news and on the city’s website.
