Residents can help Solid Waste maintain critical service levels

Fort Worth’s solid waste services – garbage, recycling, bulk and yard collections – remain operational as an essential service during the COVID-19 outbreak. City officials continue to closely monitor developments around COVID-19 and are taking steps to ensure critical service levels are maintained at all times.

Residents can do their part by helping the city use resources in the most safe, efficient and effective manner. This allows crews to continue to serve residents in the best way possible and to stay on schedule.

Here are some ways to help:

  • Make sure carts, piles of brush and piles of bulk waste are two feet apart and not blocked by vehicles.
  • Always bag garbage in regular-size kitchen bags to help keep team members safe and healthy.
  • Maximizing recycling, both in materials recycled and space in the recycling cart. Crush aluminum cans and plastic containers. Screw the lids on afterwards to keep them more compact. Break down or flatten cardboard boxes, food and snack boxes such as cereal, rice, snacks, Kleenex, etc.
  • Remember: April bulk weeks starts Monday, April 6. There are no scheduled bulk collections this week.
  • Take excess materials to one of the four conveniently located drop-off stations. The stations have been made easier to use with a new process that allows residents to keep an appropriate social distance from staff members.
  • Show your appreciation to solid waste collection teams with a socially distant “air high five,” a thumbs up or any encouraging “thank you.” Do your kids need a fun activity to keep them busy? Ask them to draw a picture or write words of encouragement on sheets of art paper, then securely tape the sheets to your garbage bins on collection day. Crews will get a kick out of the extra encouragement.
